And the next GFMD goes to…Switzerland?

Being a newspaper journalist by training, I have often ranted against blogs for spreading questionable information without giving any sources, mere opinions not marked as such etc.

I don’t want to adhere to “When in Rome…” but here is what I heard from a “well-informed source”: The next GFMD will very likely take place in Switzerland. As you may know, Spain was supposed to be the host of the 2011 meeting, but bailed out for financial reasons. Switzerland was rumoured to be the replacement (as Mexico is now for Argentinia) for a while, but now it seems to be a done deal.

After that, Morocco is supposed to follow in 2012 and then the process returns in 2013 to the UN for another High Level Dialogue (HLD) on migration.

And 2014? Well there is talk about Sweden – but that is an even  less authorized rumour so far.. 😉

UPDATE 03-11-2010: next rumour: Morocco may pull out of hosting the event next year – not a good sign…
