GFMD Models Inc. or: The hierarchy of beauty

Before writing a more content-focused analysis on the first day of the GFMD civil society meeting, let me share this observation made (and photographed…) by many participants: Apparently a model agency was responsible for hiring the high number of hostesses present at the CSD. There are jokes circulating that in Italy most of these would have been promoted to government positions by now, but on a more scientific note

a researcher on gender issues among the participants observed  a “hierarchy of beauty” : There is a relation between the dress code for the different staff members present and the amount of information they were responsible to distribute – i.e. the higher the heels, the less the authorization.

(remark: this is in no way ment to put into doubt the competency of the hostesses, but to reflect on the tasks they were assigned)
