Some new publications on the GFMD, WSFM and ILO…

With the GFMD in Mauritius and the World Social Forum on Migration (WSFM) in Manila merely days away, may I point out some publications on the subject I was involved with and how to access them? Regarding the GFMD and the ILO “decent work for domestic workers” convention, my colleague Nicola Piper and I have published an article in Third World Quarterly that discusses the discursive strategies migrants’ rights activists may employ to further their cause:

Piper, Nicola and Stefan Rother. 2012. “Let’s Argue about Migration: advancing a right(s) discourse via communicative opportunities.” Third World Quarterly 33 (9):1735–50.

You have to subscribe to TWQ in order to access the article, but the publisher has provided me with a generous number of “one-time-only” download links, so feel free to drop me a note in case you are interested. (mail (at)

I also have written a short editorial on the WSFM for ASIEN – The German Journal on Contemporary Asia which you can download here:

Rother, Stefan. 2012. “Editorial: The World Social Forum on Migration in Manila.” ASIEN – The German Journal on Contemporary Asia (125):6–7.

Finally, Brot für die Welt (Bread for the World) has invited me to write a paper to introduce the GFMD process to a wider audience:

Rother, Stefan. 2012. Das Global Forum on Migration and Development. Steuerung von Migration oder Beteiligung von Migrantinnen und Migranten? Brot für die Welt Aktuell 34.

I will post the download link once it is available, otherwise you can contact me if you need the paper urgently 😉

UPDATE: Here is the link:

I hope to see many of you at the GFMD and the WSFM – I’m participating in both of them!
